Roy David Laplante, P.Eng., Consulting Engineer, President of RDL Engineering Services Ltd.
Background
Roy David Laplante has provided engineering services and designs in the Building Services field since 1989. Prior to specializing in Building Services Engineering, his experience in the design and production of dehumidifiers and air conditioners while employed by Camco Inc. was the perfect segue to his first job as an HVAC engineer.
In 1992, Roy started his own engineering consulting service based in Sault Ste. Marie initially to service the northern region of Ontario. Roy has extended this to include projects in all regions of Ontario as well as in Manitoba.
Licensing and Indemnity
Roy became licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario in 1988, in 2001 became licenced to practice in the state of Michigan, and in 2009 became licensed to practice in Manitoba.
In 1996, Roy earned the Designation "Consulting Engineer".
Roy's first company, a sole proprietorship named RDL Engineering Services, was granted a Certificate of Authorization by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario in 1993 and by the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientist of Manitoba in 2011. As the projects grew larger and more complex, Roy decided to incorporate his company, and currently works as president of RDL Engineering Services Ltd.
Typical Project Experience
Long before “Climate Change” became a worldwide concern, prompting calls to mandate the use renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic, Roy was designing systems using geothermal energy, including vertical boreholes, buried horizontal loops and closed-system loops in bodies of water. Solar water heating, solar photovoltaic systems, Solar Walls, were all implemented in Roy’s Designs. Implementation of energy efficient Lighting Systems utilizing LED’s was completed before it was mandated.
Building Automation / Direct Digital Control Systems
Roy was hands-on when DDC controls were still in their infancy in the 1980’s. Energy Reduction programs utilizing automation and electronic controls were implemented in school boards, government buildings and private businesses. Roy has continued to implement these systems to this day as they are environmentally responsible, provide excellent comfort conditions for customers, and minimize utility costs.
With over 30 years in the Field, Roy has designed projects for almost every conceivable situation; High Rise Residential Buildings, Retirement Homes, Apartment Buildings, Restaurants, Industrial Buildings, Government Facilities, Healthcare, Commercial, to name a few.
